Pocoyo Water Taxi Tub Toy Review

If you read my post from the other day, you are now familiar with Pocoyo and his lovable friends.  Now, your child can not only enjoy Pocoyo on television and online, but in the tub too!  Pocoyo Water Taxi features a big green fish that pulls Scuba Pocoyo and Fred the Octopus.

When I pulled this toy out of the box, I couldn't keep Mason's hands off of it.  He was so excited and started saying "I do!, I do!".  He immediately placed it on the floor and started pushing it around.  He had a ball saying fish and making his fish faces!

He was even happier when I brought the toy into the tub later that night.  I placed the Water Taxi in the water and it floated nicely on the water.  Mason pulled the fish all around the tub and soon discovered that Pocoyo was removable from the 'starfish' he was sitting on.  I showed him how to place Pocoyo so he could sit on the fish's head for additional fun.  He really loved playing with the Pocoyo Water Taxi

Aside from Mason loving this toy, from a parents perspective, it really is a fun toy for little ones.  It is not flashy or complicated.  There are no lights, batteries, or sounds. It is a simple plastic toy made for fun play in the tub.  I love the simpler toys that lend themselves to children using their imagination.
This is also an affordable tub toy.  Another nice feature of the Water Taxi is that it did not hold water once it was removed from the tub.  Hopefully this will cut down on possible mold growth.

The Pocoyo Water Taxi is a great tub toy for ages 18 months to 3 years of age.  It retails for $9.99.

Pocoyoworld.com Premium Site Free Access Review and Giveaway (Closed)

Pocoyo...Pocoyo...Pocoyo.  What is Pocoyo?  That was what I was wondering and knew I had to find out more.  Pocoyo, meaning "Little Me" in Spanish,  is a new pre-school animated series about the curious little boy, Pocoyo.  You will also find Pocoyo's friends, an elephant (Elly), a duck (Pato), and a bird (Baby Bird), just to name a few, who are just as lovable as Pocoyo.

The goal of Pocoyo is to "capture the imagination and stimulate children to watch, listen and interact, promoting creativity, self-awareness and self-confidence by learning through laughter".  Pocoyo is a great show that teaches appropriate and age relevant material and language skills for pre-school children. Your child will be introduced to such concepts as colors, shapes, numbers, and more in very simple language for your little one. Simply put, this series is about discovery and friendship.  Pocoyo is appropriate for ages 1-3 and even up to age 5 or 6.

What I really love about Pocoyo is the imaginative nature of the show.  I think children need to use their imagination more and this is a perfect way to introduce imaginative play while having fun.  I watched several episodes of Pocoyo online and loved the simple nature of the cartoon and the bright colors the animators used.  Against the plain white background, it is very easy to follow the character without getting distracted by a busy background,   Pocoyo is filled with music and simple ideas about sharing, caring, and being friends with others.

You can find Pocoyo on television and online.  I was fortunate enough to have access to Pocoyoworld.com.  Registering was simple..and free!  Once you get set up with a user name and password, you get to create your own character.  You can choose you hairstyle, facial expression and clothes.  It's really fun!

Once you get registered you will find yourself in Pocoyo's world.  This is a fun and safe interactive online community for your child to use.  Once inside Pocoyoworld.com, you can explore the town.  You will find Pato's Garden, a Pond, Central Square, the Park, the Cinema Square, Amusement Park, Pocoyo's Workshop.  Within each location, you will find new games to play and skills to practice.  There are challenges too!  Each time you sign in you will see a task list you can complete to earn tickets.  These tickets will be used to buy things around the online town.  This site is very user friendly for pre-schoolers and parents alike.

As I noted, access to Pocoyoworld.com is free.  You will have access to all Pocoyo Worlds, games, activities, and shops.  You will also be able to exchange gifts with your friends you make along the way.  However, you can upgrade your account to the Premium Club in Pocoyo's World.  The Premium Club offers more content and areas, and get exclusive virtual objects (costumes, vehicles, interactive objects, etc.). In addition, you will receive a monthly report monitoring your activity on Pocoyo World.  You will also be able to participate in exclusive events and promotions.

You can also check out Pocoyo.com for more information about Pocoyo and his friends.  You will find things like games, activities, music, episodes, and much much more.

If you would like to check out Pocoyo World's Premium Club for a FREE 14 day trial, fill out the Giveaway form below.

Moon Dough by Spin Master

I admit, I am THAT mom who tries to make sure her kid never eats a crayon, sand, leaves, paper, or just about anything else he could possibly get his hands onto.  So Mason is 20 months and I have to loosen the reigns.  Now is the time for coloring and drawing and yes, eating crayons.  I understand how important it is for development of fine motor skills, but still.  I imagine this opens the door to other creative play like finger paints and clay.  Oh, the fun (and clean-up) that awaits!

As a child I played with Play-Doh .  I really can't think of anyone who hasn't really.  Play-Doh was a staple in my house, along with the play sets and refill containers just ready and waiting to be mixed with the other colors.  Here is a a nice alternative to Play-Doh if you are looking for a change of pace or just something different this holiday season.  It is called Moon Dough.  Have you checked this out yet?  It is from the makers of Moon Sand, is like Play-Doh, but claims to never dry out.  I got my hands on a sample of Moon Dough to check it out.  The dough is light and soft, kind of  feels like a marshmallow.  It is very easy to shape and mold into whatever you want.

For the parents out there who have children with skin sensitivities or allergies, know that your child can play with Moon Dough since it is is also hypo-allergenic and wheat-free.  That is a hugh plus in my book!

Clean-up was pretty easy.  I just took a larger piece of the dough and used that to collect the smaller pieces.  It washes off your hands easily if need be.

There are also some play sets available - Moon Dough DinerMoon Dough Puppies, Moon Dough Magic Barnyard.  The play sets retail from about $9.99 to $19.99.  You can also buy Moon Dough Refill Packs and retail for about $4.99.

Mega Bloks Pull Along Musical Pirate Ship Review and Giveaway (Closed)

Mega Bloks Pull Along Musical Pirate Ship is adorable!  If your little one love to drag everything around with them, this toy is perfect!  There are small wheels underneath the ship that makes it easy for anyone to pull along.  This 20 piece play set is complete with 2 pirate characters, 1 shark figurine, a treasure chest, and a ship monkey that plays music, monkey and ocean sounds.  It also has a real working front mounted cannon!  Mason especially loved this feature.

As he pulled it along, the pirate ship played a cute pirate tune that Mason bounced along to.  You can take the pirate hide out off the ship and create an on shore hideout for the pirates.  There is a 'quick-release' trapdoor on the back of the ship that will hold all the blocks for storage when play is finished.

Again, this is a great toy for young children that is safe and fun to play with.  Your little one is sure to have hours of play with all of the characters included in this set.

This toy is for children aged 1 and up.  It retails for $29.99.

The winner of the MegaBloks Giveaway is Violet H.  The winner will have 24 hours to respond to my email or another winner will be chosen.

Playmobil Take Along Castle Review and Conveyor Belt with Mini Excavator

Playmobil's Unicorn Take Along Castle Set is great fun for little girls who are on the go.  This play set is ideal for bringing along to play dates or over to the cousins house during holiday visits.  All of the pieces included in this set can be locked away behind the doors on this set, making travel a breeze!  There is also a handle that makes carrying for little hands easy.

This play set is appropriate for children ages 4+ since there are many small pieces.  It retails for $12.99.

Conveyor Belt With Mini Excavator

Playmobil got it right with this cool truck!  This play set measures measures 19.2"L x 6"W x 9"H.  That means there is a lot of fun to be had.  With it's sturdy construction, this will easily make for creative and independent play.  There are so many vast possibilities with this toy, from stacking the boulders in the cart to running the conveyor belt.  The best feature on this toy is the 21.6" long conveyor belt and tipping cart that actually moves.  The excavator scoop moves moves up and down too!

Included in this playset is a construction foreman and worker, 16 boulders of various sizes, fire extinguisher, tool box, 4 tools and laptop.

The Conveyor Belt with Mini Excavator Playset is recommended for ages 3 and up.  It retails for $34.99.

Learning Curve Dinosaur Train InterAction Review (T-Rex Boris and Tank Triceratops)

If you have been following my posts, you know that we are huge Dinosaur Train fans in my house.  Mason just loves all the Dinosaur Train characters and I love the educational value inherent in the television show.  That being said, it is no lie when I say I was really excited when I found out that I had the chance to review Learning Curves new InterAction line of toys.

Learning Curve Dinosaur Train - InterAction Roar 'N React Boris Tyrannosaurus Ultimate T-Rex and Learning Curve Dinosaur Train - InterAction Tank are two of the best toys I have reviewed yet.  As you would expect, these toys are based on the hit television show, Dinosaur Train. Because of "SmartTalk" technology, these dinosaurs have the ability to recognize and interact with each other. Each dinosaur has an interactive button that you can push to make the dinosaur speak and to start solo or interactive play.

Tyrannosaurus Boris was really cool to play with. This dinosaur has fully poseable arms and legs.  By pressing the button on his back, you can start real play with him.  I loved the chomping sounds he made when you press down on his tongue.  He will roar when you press his tail down and make stomping sounds when he walks.  He will also share
                                                      dinosaur facts with you.

Tank Triceratops was also a lot of fun to play with.  Interactive play began by pressing his button.  My favorite feature is the crashing sound he makes when you tilt his head forward.  The chomping and stomping sounds are always fun too!  Tank also has fully poseable arms and legs.

Because I had two of the dinosaurs, I was able to get them to "speak" to each other.  Not only do they talk to each other and answer each other's questions, but they sing in harmony too!  Through play with these toys, you will not only have a ton of fun, but you will learn educational facts about the dinosaurs.

These dinosaurs are made of a hard, durable plastic.  There are no sharp edges, which is a nice feature when you have a toddler that insists on carrying toys everywhere, but can't seem to not  fall over 10 times a day.  They are brightly colored and very eye-appealing too.  If you get one Dinosaur Train InterAction toy, make sure you get two so you can have the real experience of how these toys were meant to be played.

Learning Curve Dinosaur Train InterAction line is recommended for ages 3+.   They retail from $14.99 to $39.99, depending on the Dinosaur Train character.

Dinosaur Train: Dinosaurs in the Snow DVD Review

Have you become a Dinosaur Train fan yet?  What are you waiting for?  This is one of the cutest and most educational shows for pre-schoolers aged 2-5 that is out here!  Each episode is filled with facts about life science, natural history, and paleontology.  You can't go wrong with anything that includes Dinosaurs and Trains.  Now there is a new DVD, Dinosaur Train: Dinosaurs in the Snow, just in time for your little ones for the holiday season.  And I can tell you, we have already watched this great DVD several times and I have a feeling that it will be a staple throughout the holidays!

There are eight great episodes on this one DVD.  Dinosaur Train: Dinosaurs in the Snow episodes include:

Dinosaurs in the Snow - Buddy and his Pteranodon family ride the Dinosaur Train to the North Pole - where it's cooler, and the skies are dark all winter long!;

Night Train - Dad, Buddy and Tiny take a special ride on the Dinosaur Train at night, learning about animals that are active after dark, culminating at the Big Pond for a nature walk under the full moon;

Fossil Fred - Buddy, Tiny and Don play "detective" and search around the Big Pond for fossils. The kids end up finding an entire skeleton of a Jurassic dinosaur;

King Cryolophosaurus - Buddy, Tiny, Don and Mom meet a reclusive, singing dinosaur named King who has a big swooping crest on his head and a voice that sounds an awful lot like Elvis Presley;

Dinosaur Block Party - The Pteranodon family hosts a block party to introduce their new neighbors, the Lambeosaurus family, to all the other neighborhood creatures;

Buddy's Surprise Birthday Party - Shiny, Tiny and Don throw a surprise party for Buddy on the Dinosaur Train and invite a whole caboose full of his friends!;

Mom's Day - The kids go to the Big Pond to look for flowers to give to Mom on her special Mothers Day; and

Cretaceous Conifers - The whole Pteranodon family have fun celebrating Mom's favorite holiday, Winter Solstice. You can find encore presentations of Dinosaurs in the Snow; “Cretaceous Conifers” to be broadcast on December 8, 12, 20, and 24 (check local listings).

The DVD also features an interactive game, coloring pages, a dinosaur reference guide and parent information about the program and characters. It retails for $14.99.

In case you still were not convinced about how great of a program Dinosaur Train is, Dinosaur Train is also a Parents’ Choice Recommended TV series, and the Dinosaur Train website has received a Parents’ Choice Silver Award and was the recipient of a prestigious 2010 Prix Jeunesse Award.

Dora's Christmas Carol DVD by Nickelodeon Review

Have your kids already asked you to sit down and make a holiday list?  Here is one more item to add! Dora the Explorer: Dora's Christmas Carol is a wonderful holiday DVD that will be a hit for the whole family!

The movie begins with Dora and her friends preparing for Christmas Eve, or a Nochebuena party. Swiper the Fox arrives and steals the star off of the tree, which places him on Santa's naughty list. Santa gives Swiper a chance to fix his mistakes.  Dora tries to help Swiper get off of Santa's naughty list and learn what Christmas is all about.  Dora must help Swiper travel through the past, present and future if they are to learn the true meaning of Christmas.  You will quickly realize that this is an adaptation of Dickens', A Christmas Carol.  Dora and Swiper visit the past when Dora’s friends were still babies and when Dora was a little girl.  You will also visit the future and see Dora as a young teenage girl and Swiper as an old fox.

In Dora fashion, she must solve a problem during the movie. Dora is interactive with your child and she encourages completing simple math skills, answering riddles about Christmas figures like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Frosty the Snowman, and finding hidden objects in a picture.

I love that this movie emphasizes the importance of friendship and having people in your life to help you, all while learning the value of giving to others during the holiday season.  The joy of receiving presents is also explored, which pre-schoolers easily relate too.

There are also special features at the end of the main program.  You will find a "Jingle Bells" music video, a "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" music video, and the Young People's Chorus Behind the Scenes Featurette.

I am always impressed by the programming that is inherent  in the Dora the Explorer series.  Your children will learn language skills (both English and Spanish), cognitive skills, and physical skills.

I highly recommend this DVD for young pre-schoolers.  This DVD will make an excellent holiday stocking stuffer, that is not only educational, but entertaining, especially for kids who love Dora the Explorer!

Dora the Explorer: Dora's Christmas Carol Adventure runs for 52 minutes and can be purchased for around $14.99.

Benadryl and Motrin for Kids Recalled

I received this recall notice from WebMD.com.  In case you missed it, nearly 5 million packages of children's medicines are being recalled because of manufacturing issues.  Johnson & Johnson has voluntarily recalled all product lots of Children's Benadryl Allergy Fastmelt Tablets, in cherry and grape flavors, and all product lots of Junior Strength Motrin Caplets 24 count distributed in the U.S.

The article states is is safe to continue using the medication, but in my book, a recall is a recall.  I would rather ditch the meds and pick up something new and err on the side of safety.

Click HERE for the full article from WebMD.com or continue below.

Nov. 23, 2010 -- J & J has ordered a voluntary recall of about 4.8 million packages of children's medicines due to "insuffiencies" in the manufacturing process.

Company spokeswoman Bonnie Jacobs tells WebMD the company is recalling 4 million packages of Children’s Benadryl allergy tablets and 800,000 bottles of junior-strength Motrin caplets.

She says the medicines are not dangerous and that the recalls are being done at the wholesale and retail levels, including drugstores.

Consumers may keep taking the medications, she says.

 No Adverse Events Reported

“This is not a consumer level recall,” Jacobs tells WebMD. “This is not being undertaken on the basis of adverse events, but because we identified insufficiencies in the manufacturing process.”

Johnson & Johnson’s McNeil Consumer Healthcare unit says in a news release that the recall was ordered in consultation with the FDA for Children’s Benadryl Allergy Fastmelt Tablets in cherry and grape flavors.

The tablets were distributed in the U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, St. Martin, Barbados, and Belize, the company says.

The news release says the recall was ordered “after a review, conducted as part of McNeil’s comprehensive action plan, revealed insufficiencies in the development of the manufacturing process.”

It says “there is no indication that the recalled products do not meet quality standards.”

Recalled Products

The McNeil unit says the recall includes all product lots of Junior Strength Motrin Caplets, 24 count, distributed in the U.S. It says there is no sign the caplets don’t meet quality standards and that the recall, like the one for Benadryl, is not being initiated due to any reports of adverse events.

Products being recalled are Children’s Benadryl Allergy Fastmelt Tablets, cherry flavor, with a code number of 50580-347-18; Children’s Benadryl Allergy Fastmelt Tablets, grape flavor, code number 50580-348-18; and Junior Strength Motrin Caplets, 24 count, code number 50580-498-24.

The company says consumers with questions should call 888-222-6036 Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Eastern time.

Playmobil Fire Chief and Car Review and Giveaway (Closed)

Have you purchased any gifts from Playmobil for this season yet?  Well, if not, you better get out there and get some!  Playmobil's line is awesome!  I was able to review just one of the many items offered in their extensive line of toys.

This fire-fighting themed truck from Playmobil is ready to go at a moment's notice!  You can have your car packed and ready to go with a fire extinguisher, car cones, megaphone, first aid kit and much, much more.  This all fits in the car's storage compartment, too.  This Playmobil set also comes with the Fire Chief figure that you can sit inside of the drivers seat of the car.  Oh, and the fire chief's car comes with a removable roof.  How cool is that?!

This makes a great partner toy to the other Playmobil Fire Rescue sets.  I love toys that are multi-function.  Not only is this fun to play with, but this fire fighting set creates the opportunity to talk to your little one about the danger of fire and fire safety.  For this reason, I think this a great toy with valuable lessons that can be learned from play.

Mega Bloks Adventures on Misty Island Review

Calling all Mega Bloks and Thomas Fans!!!!  Mega Bloks Thomas Adventure on Misty Island is the perfect buildable play set for children 3 and older.  It is based off the hit movie Thomas & Friends: Misty Island Rescue.  Your little one becomes the engineer of the track, so they can design it any way they want.  You can build and rebuild Misty Island over and over in countless ways.  You can build the track up high or low down, creating endless adventures.

This play set will definitely keep young children busy.  Children will be having fun while refining their motor skill development.  What is great it that you can also combine it with other Thomas characters and play sets.  This opens up the possibilities for endless fun!

Pinkalicious Review and Giveaway (Closed)

UNO: Pinkalicious

I remember the original game of UNO.  It was always a fun game to play on family game night.  However, I don't remember winning that often, but it was always fun.  You can continue the tradition of game night with the Pinkalicious fans in your house with UNO: Pinkalicious Edition.

Pinkalicious UNO is the same great game of UNO you remember, but with a twist and a special Pinkitits Card and Rule, which can only be cured with a dose of green veggies (or all the green cards you hold in your hand)!  There are two ways to keep score.  Either the first player to reach 500 points is the winner or the person with the lowest amount of points is the winner.  It just depends on how you keep score with the remaining cards.

Pinkalicious UNO comes in a nice collector's tin container to neatly hold all the UNO playing cards.  It also displays a picture of Pinkalicious dressed in her usual attire while holding her signature wand and pink cupcakes.  This game includes 112 custom UNO cards featuring Pinkalicious, her friends, and the foods that have made Pinkalicious famous.  The artwork on the cards is very well done.  They are bright and colorful and lend themselves for many hours of Pinkalicious UNO fun.  If you are a UNO and Pinkalicious lover, you can't go wrong with this edition of UNO.

Pinkalicious UNO can be found on Amazon.  Pinkalicious UNO retails for $18.99

Pinkalicious: Purplicious Doll

Pinkarella

Pinkalicious: Pinkerella is based on the game BINGO!  What a great way to celebrate everything Pink.  Pinkerella is for 2-4 players and is so easy and fun to play.  The object of the game is to fill your game card with the cupcake disc.  You take turns with the other players drawing cards and even trading cards.  If you get a card that matches a picture on your mat, you put a cupcake disc on your game card.  When your card if full, you shout, "PINKERELLA!" and you win!

The Pinkerella game includes 54 cards and 24 cupcake discs.  This is appropriate for children ages 4 and up.  It retails for $9.99.  You can purchase this game at Walmart, Barnes and Nobles, and Amazon.

Pinkalicious Review (3 in 1 Card Game and Pinkalicious Scrabble Jr)

Pinkalicious 3 in 1 Classic Card Game

Card games are classic and never grow old.  I played card games with my grandmother every time I went over her house.  We played Gin Rummy, Fish, and WAR, just to name a few.  Those were good times.

Pinkalicious has created a new 3 in 1 set of classic card games, Pinkalicious style, of course!  The three games include Cupcake Snack, Golden Wands, and Princess Purple.

Cupcake Snack is based on the classic game of Slap-Jack.  This is such a fun game!  There are 2 versions of this game you can play.  Here is Game 1.  Players take turns flipping over a card for all to see.  When a Cupcake card is turned over, everyone has to quickly place their hand over the Cupcake card.  The first player to "eat" the cupcake wins the pile of cards.  If a player mistakenly slaps another card, they have to forfeit all their cards and return them to the draw pile.  Game 2 is for you to find out when you buy this great set!  Here's  hint: it is based on the classic game of Spoons.

Golden Wands is based on the classic game of Crazy 8's.  There are also 2 versions of this game.  In Game 1 players are dealt a hand of cards.  It is each players job to get rid of all their cards by matching the card in the discard pile by either color or number.  All Golden 8 cards are "magical" and are wild cards.  If you cannot match by color or number in the discard pile, the player must choose a card from the draw pile.  First player to get rid of all their cards wins!  Game 2 is for 2 players and is a number stacking game.

Princess Purple is based on the classic game of Old Maid.  Again, 2 versions of this game can be played.  In Game 1, all the cards are dealt to the players.  Players discard any matches from their hand.  Players offer one card to be picked, if a match has been made, those cards get laid down.  Players do this until all matches have been made and one player is left holding the Pinkalicious card. They are the automatic winner.  Game 2 is a version of the classic game, Memory, but Pinkalicious style!

These cards games are for ages 4 and up and retails for $12.99.  It is available at Walmart.

Pinkalicious Scrabble Junior

I admit, I definitely don't play enough Scrabble.  I love the game and always have a great time playing.  I will be playing more Scrabble now that Pinkalicious has now turned this fun game Pink with Pinkalicious-Junior Scrabble!

Straight from out of the box, this game is adorable.  For younger players, the playing board displays fun Pinkalicious pictures and easy to read lettering.  The reverse side of the playing board allows older players to form their own words, with some suggestions along the sides for help.  The letter tiles are large and easy for little hands to manipulate.

There are two versions of Pinkalicious Scrabble.  The first on uses the pre-lettered side of the playing board.  Players take 7 letters and attempt to spell the words using the correct letters, in the correct order.  If you are the player to complete a word, you get to collect a scoring chip.  You play this game until all the letters on the board have been covered.  Then see who has the most scoring chips, that is the winner!

The second version of Pinkalicious Scrabble is more like the original Scrabble game.  Players create words on the board in crossword fashion.  Each player takes a turn creating a word, earning one point for each letter used.  Keep playing this game until all possibilities for words have been exhausted.  The players with the most points at the end wins!

This is a great game that can help enhance letter recognition and spelling skills.  Included in this game is the 2-sided playing board, 101 letter tiles, and 44 scoring chips.  This game is recommended for children ages 5 and up.  It retails for $19.99 and is available from Amazon.

If you love Pinkalicious and want to add some "Pink" to your holiday season, check back for our Giveaway starting on Monday, November 22, 2010!!!!!!
